Purchased this app, and the idiotic in-app purchases - do not waste your money like I did! You can’t edit columns in a table after creating a table. You can’t add columns, or remove them. You actually can’t do a lot of things. I also purchased the in-app already-constructed data after realizing this thing was a huge hassle - could not edit a thing!!!! I am very much not happy… total waste of time and money. To the developer - were you just lazy or something? this app is a waste of time, and you could have made it amazing. :( Please, do more work on this one. Make it better.

This is a rip off. The description says you can create a data base, create tables, etc. But after you purchase the app you have to make an additional purchase to create a data base and create forms, etc. Then, after the second purchase, you create your database and start adding tables, you can’t edit the tables if you made a mistake in setting it up and you can’t add a record into the database. What use is a database without records?????? I guess for the price I should not have expected too much. I will ask for a refund. And …. when you go to the support page it just takes you to another website to buy more apps.

FIrst off, if you want to actually make a dtabase, it requires you to purchase a $3 add on. I bought this app attempting to create a database for my small business. I have used, and am proficient in, access databases. This, however, is nothing like access. I tried to import my excel speadsheet which contained all my data, it prompted me to import it as a CSV (comma separated value). After I tried to import the data in CSV form, every time I imported it, the app shut down. It could not handle the data and would not import. I wasted 8 dollars on this and would not recommend this product to ANYONE.

Access Database Manager is the only Mac database program that i have found that will open and allow me to use my old Microsoft Office XP Access databases. OpenOffice and LibreOffice only display junk and some cryptic “Microsoft Jet” messages. Access Database Manager is a work in progress. It may not be the easiest or most intuative database program out there, but Steven Li has been more than gone above and beyond to help me learn the program and get be able to use my databases again. One of my databases has over 800 records, each with about forty fields. Access Database Manager has had no issues handling it, whatsoever. I suggest this program. It, and its optional plugins are more than worth the cost. If the user has trouble figuring out the features, just get support from Steven. He is great. For some time, I was coming to the conclusion that if I wanted my Access databases back, I would have to install Micro$hit WinDoze and Office on my iMac. I really do not want any Microsoft code on this machine, whatsoever.

I agree with the other review and wish I had seen it first. It doesn’t have much to offer at all. I opened an existing database and really couldn’t do much with it or see it how it looks in Access…even after upgrading. The forms are lousy and not robust at all. The arrow buttons didn’t work. I may as well have just used excel to scroll through the records and saved my money.

Tami29 · 11 years ago

This app can’t perform queries or set up a relational database. They say queries are coming but nothing in the last year. All you can do is modify table information. Save your money until something more substantial comes along.

TNT app · 11 years ago

I was rather excited. $9 for a database app for my Mac, whooohooo! Then I discovered that you need to BUY upgrades for everything just to be able to use the program. I bought the first $3 add on and I still wasn’t able to do my own thing. I had to buy even more stuff. No. Thank. You. I’m going to see if I can get my money back. This was a ripoff.

Maingo_Grey · 11 years ago

does not work properly - no uninstall option - normal uninstall methods for Mac do not work on it and it offers no help nor information on how to uninstall - attached onto the system like a leech - be careful with this one. USELESS - rip off.

SUCH A WASTE

I honesty was excited to purchase this app, when I paid the 9.99, i found that NOTHING came with it. SUCH A WASTE OF MONEY!!!!

Wouldn't open MDB file

Purchased this to open an MDB file, but it just showed a blank table. Found another app that did the job, but unfortunately Apple wouldn't refund this purchase.

Danpow · 2 years ago

Zero, in my MacBook Air, M1

Did not work at all for me. On opening .mdb files I only got total blank data tables.

MexicanMadDog · 4 years ago

Solid but fails on big tables

Great product for viewing and exporting access tables. Large tables greater than 200K rows crashes on filter or export. Works for smaller tables access files. Hope this limitation can be fixed than I would give it 5 stars. Keeping improving this program it is sorely need for MAC people.

Can View Microsoft Access Format (.accdb)

This app is great for using .accdb files from Microsoft Access. If you purchase the basic plan, you can view your new access database on your Mac after moving it to your Mac computer. After if you want to purchase, you must purchase another plan within the app (for me it was 2.99) that will allow you to edit. I was hoping it worked for me after looking at this page. I want to thank the developer for this great app.

Can’t rate it-don’t have Microsoft Access

This looks like an excellent application, but I should have waited to buy it until I was able to to get the Microsoft Access app on my Mac computer - which I cannot do. I was trying to move a few Microsoft Works 4.0 files (database files e.g. pharmacy records, automobile service records, etc.) from an old Mac computer to a newer one that I use daily. The old Mac still works OK and the MS Works app still works fine, but I don’t know how long either of them will continue to work (plus I just wish I had everything on the newer computer). I have not been able to find an app that can bring those file for use on my newer computer. I certainly should have checked to see if I could use Microsoft Access on my newer Mac, but I didn’t. I do have the updated version of Microsoft Office on my computer, so I thought I would just be able to bring the files into Excel and adapt them into a spreadsheet. What I am trying to say by writing this “unreview” is, if you are in the same situation as I am, with Mac computers, your first step is to be able to use Microsoft Access on your Mac before purchasing an app to bring your database files from your old Mac to a newer Mac.

Horrible

Wish I could get my money back... I bought this and it won't even open my access document. And then it wants me to continue to buy more things to even see if I could get it to work.

Tgrafx · 6 years ago

Doesnt work for access file, waste of $10

What a waste of $10 should have read more reviews didnt open and run the file.

Still doesn’t work after additional purchases!

I would rate MDB ACCDB a “0 stars” if I could. This company should pay me $10 for my headache. This app doesn’t display the database with all the fields or in the same order as the original did in Access. I was required to purchase additional modules that were suppose to add the features I needed, but none of it worked. I should have realized that a $20(including two $5 add-ons) program would probably be junk. I “wrote the app off as experience”, printed the entire sheet in sections from my Windows machine, and manually reentered the database into Bento 4, which I purchased on Amazon for $30. Incidentally, I believe Bento 4 should have been included by Apple into it’s iWorks suite as the Access equivalent, along with Pages, Numbers, and Keynote. MDB ACCDB is the worst software I have yet to purchase from the Apple store, and I strongly recommend against buying it.

Lacks an Edit Function. Useless.

So you’re able to create databases and create tables with an in-app purchase. But you have to be careful, since you only get one attempt to create your table structure perfectly just the way you want it, since once the table is created, you cannot make changes to it (or drop tables). And everyone knows, everything is created perfectly the first time around. Making a way to “create”, but not edit or delete just makes the whole in-app purchase pointless. And there’s no way to preview functionality before purchasing, so I am out $10 and looking for another solution.

Don’t buy - Rip Off

I thought with Apps buy in, one could create a database table, but to edit a table, again you need to buy app. Create table has limited data types

Only good for viewing or exporting Not good for any importing

I inherited several files that are from Windows computer people and in Access Database format. I’m a mac person, so I decided to buy the Access Database App on the App Store and use that to view, edit and create files/tables using the same software. The problem is that even though this app allows viewing and exporting of pre-existing data/tables, it has no way to edit or create tables/data. The in-app purchases (to be able to edit tables or import tables) appear to only allow one use for that purchase. In other words, if I have 15 excel tables that I want to import and use on Access Database, then I have to pay $4.99 15 times. Whaaaat? That’s crazy. I didn’t know this when I made the in-app purchases to be able to fully use all features of the app. So after I practiced once and thought I was all set to be able to use the app in future, I came back to app later and tried to use for new table, but there were no import csv options, only a drop down menu asking if I wanted to buy or restore my in app purchase. Except it will not allow me to restore my purchases. I watched the developer’s you tube demo on how to import csv files, and there was no section with the drop down menu so I don’t know if it’s a glitch or just an unclear part of this app in the App Store. But the bottom line is that this app is good for viewing previously inherited files and for exporting to excel for me to work on, but it is completely not useable for anything other than viewing—even with the in-app purchases. So unless you just need to view data, this probably is not the app for you.

Version 3.0 is so much better!

I have been using Access Database Manager for a couple years now. Initially, it was the ONLY program that would oppen my encrypted Access 2002 database files (OpenOffice/Libre Office and everthing else I tried, failed). At first, it had a lot of bugs. Some of my data was missing or unavailable. The program crashed somewhat regularly, that sort of thing. However, I do ave to say John Li has been more than gracious when it comes to addressing the bugs. At this point, almost all the problems I had have been fixed with maintenance updates. He has patiently worthed with me to address every single issue. That’s no bull. Thanks John!
